"Shane! Shane! Come back!" is the phrase that will always be associated with this classic western film. Filmed on location on the high plains near Jackson Hole, Wyoming and other *locations, the Grand Tetons loom in all their majestic beauty in the background and although the film is fiction, elements of this location are derived from the infamous Johnson County War of Wyoming. The movie is about a mysterious gunslinger named Shane (played by Alan Ladd) who wanders into a quiet western town and finds himself drawn into the classic conflict between the homesteader aka sodbuster and the powerful cattle baron who considers all land his and wants to force all the homesteaders off of his land.

Shane accepts a job as a farmhand for a homesteader named Joe and finds himself drawn to the family, especially the wife. As the movie progresses the cattle baron hires a gunslinger with the reputation of being not only extremely skilled but a cold-blooded killer. The gunslinger and guns down another homesteader and Shane's employer, Joe decides that he needs to save the town; however Shane stops him and says he'll go, which ends up in a fist fight and Shane hits Joe over the head to knock him out so he wouldn't get killed. Shane then goes and there is a climatic shoot-out where the cattle baron and hired gunslinger are killed and Shane is wounded. After telling Joe's son, Joey (who idolizes him and thinks guns are wonderful) to stay away from guns and violence Shane rides away for parts unknown. The movie ends with the classic phrase "Shane! Shane! Come back" being called out by Joey as Shane rides off into the distance.....and you never know what happened to Shane after that.
