Classic Military Style saddlebags with 3 straps that weave through the top flat, plain simple buckles and long strap tails.. This saddle bag style has grommets for adding laces to hold down sleeping bags, rain slicker or other items. Available in Black or Brown. Measurements of saddlebags are 11" x 11" x 4".

The saddlebag was the mainstay of the calvaryman. It enabled him to carry a sleeping roll, rain slicker and if lucky a spare set of pants and jacket. The saddle bag itself was full of essential items such as ammunition, a few emergency rations such as hardtack and perhaps some jerky, mess gear, toiletries, horse grooming equipment and perhaps a few treasured personal possesions if possible. Usually the enlisted man carried everything he owned in his saddlebag and if he was able to read and write perhaps a journal. When out on long patrols or moving from one outpost to another they had to be self efficient for days and possibly weeks as they patrolled the western territories. Saddlebags of this design were used from around 1776 to 1945. The United States still had mounted cavalry units at the beginning of World War II where these were widely used.
