Marble knives were made in Gladstone, Michigan starting in the late 1890's thru the late 1970's when Marble sold their trademark to an overseas company. Webster L. Marble was a timber cruiser and surveyor who started a factory in 1898 that produced the Safety Axe and a waterproof match safe. He soon introduced the famous Ideal Hunting Knife and this along with the Woodcraft, Canoe and Safety Hunting Knives. Almost singlehandedly Marble turned the hunting knife into the accessory that all sportsmen must have. The ideal model was available in lengths from 4 to 8 inches starting in 1899. The original designs all had clip-point blades with a deep fullered edge grind so that you could sharpen your blade on a strop and be able to shave with it. Marble's pattern sheath knife were the knives of choice until the infroduction of hte Buck knives in the 1950's.
